Insider Brief

  • Skylo raised $37 million to boost satellite connectivity for smartphones in North America, focusing on texting with plans for voice and data expansion.
  • Utilizes cellular standards for direct satellite connections, aiming for broader service applications.
  • Funding to fuel growth and partnerships with tech giants like Samsung and Qualcomm for enhanced connectivity solutions.

Skylo has secured $37 million in funding to expand its satellite connectivity solutions for smartphones and other low-bandwidth devices. This round, led by Innovation Endeavors and Intel’s venture capital arm, aims to enhance Skylo’s partnerships and broaden its services across the U.S. and Canada.

The Silicon Valley-based company, founded seven years ago but emerging from stealth in 2020, leverages cellular industry standards to connect devices directly to geostationary satellites.

Currently, Skylo is focusing on texting services with plans to introduce voice and data capabilities.

The recent investment will support Skylo’s team growth and market expansion efforts in various sectors, including consumer electronics and IoT devices. Notably, Skylo has established strategic partnerships with major satellite operators and technology firms like Samsung, Qualcomm, and MediaTek to further its connectivity solutions.

Here’s what one of those involved in the funding round had to say:

“This round accelerates our carrier partnerships and supports all top device makers adopting our standards-based solution.”

— Skylo co-founder and CEO Parth Trivedi
