The Space Development Agency (SDA) has awarded contracts totaling $2.5 billion to aerospace giants L3Harris, Lockheed Martin, and Sierra Space as reported by BollyInside.

The contracts include the construction and operation of 54 advanced satellites, equipped with infrared sensors designed to track hypersonic missiles throughout all stages of their flight. As part of the SDA’s Tranche 2 Tracking Layer network, each company will handle the production and operation of 18 satellites, set to be launched in 2027.

These satellites play a crucial role in the global architecture envisioned by the SDA, marking a significant leap forward in missile-tracking technology and defense capabilities. The satellites will feature a variety of infrared sensors including some that are capable of generating “fire control-quality tracks” for precise interception of incoming missiles.
