X-Bow Systems Inc., a non-traditional producer of advanced solid rocket motors (SRMs) and defense technologies, announced it has secured five contracts worth $60 million to advance the readiness and capacity of the U.S. energetics industrial base. These contracts, executed in partnership with the Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division (NSWC IHD), represent an initial phase of design, development, and equipment procurement aimed at modernizing critical facilities and processes.
The contracts form part of the Navy’s broader $2.7 billion, 15-year modernization plan for NSWC IHD, which supports the Department of Defense’s strategy to strengthen domestic defense manufacturing capabilities. X-Bow’s contributions focus on automating and upgrading key areas such as propellant casting, ingredient feeding systems, and live rocket motor processing. These upgrades aim to expand production capacity and ensure readiness to meet the increasing demand for solid rocket motor propulsion systems.
X-Bow has already achieved significant milestones, including completing designs for inert preparation and automated propellant feeding facilities on time and within budget. These successes have positioned the company as a reliable partner for the Navy’s efforts to modernize its energetics industrial base.
“Ensuring our warfighters are prepared for any situation requires a robust organic industrial base,” said Jason Hundley, CEO of X-Bow Systems. He emphasized the importance of enhancing production capacity to meet evolving military needs. Dr. Phillip J. Cole, NSWC IHD’s Energetics Manufacturing Department Head, highlighted the value of partnerships like X-Bow’s in revitalizing the nation’s munitions production capabilities.
In addition to its work with NSWC IHD, X-Bow continues to supply SRMs for both strategic and tactical applications, supporting multiple armed services and commercial customers. The company also plays a role in boosting propulsion systems for hypersonic weapons, contributing to the Navy’s Conventional Prompt Strike program and the Army’s Long Range Hypersonic Weapon System.
