ICEYE announced it will lead a consortium of Finnish space and defense companies to support the Finnish Ministry of Defense’s F-35 fighter program. The initiative aims to advance space-based intelligence and develop cutting-edge technologies to strengthen Finland’s defense capabilities, particularly in Arctic conditions.

The consortium includes prominent Finnish companies Insta, Huld, DA-Group, and the Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI), alongside global aerospace leader Lockheed Martin. Together, the group will focus on improving Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities by leveraging advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) technology, artificial intelligence (AI)-driven analytics, and mobile ISR cells. These capabilities will address operational challenges across land, sea, and air, particularly in NATO’s Northern Flank.

Lockheed Martin will contribute its AI-enabled Global Automated Target Recognition (GATR) system, which automates satellite image analysis to provide real-time situational awareness. According to Rod Drury, Lockheed Martin Space’s vice president for Global Business, the collaboration aims to deliver reliable decision-making tools for multi-domain operations.

Consortium partner Insta will bring decades of experience in command and control systems, focusing on integrating real-time sensor data into defense networks. “A real-time situational picture is critical for multi-domain operations,” noted Petri Reiman, Insta’s Senior Vice President.

Huld, which has over three decades of experience in space and defense, will focus on digital systems and product design for the initiative. Director of Defense & Space Matti Anttila described the project as a vital effort to bolster Finland’s national security.

DA-Group, known for its security innovations, will contribute technical expertise to enhance defense systems. CEO Pekka Airola expressed confidence in the consortium’s ability to deliver meaningful results.

The Finnish Meteorological Institute will leverage its Arctic Space Centre to provide satellite data and research, strengthening Finland’s capability to operate in harsh environmental conditions.
