General Galactic announced it has raised $8 million in a seed funding round, co-led by Harpoon Ventures and Refactor Capital, bringing the company’s total investment to $10 million. Additional participation came from Pathbreaker, BoxGroup, Seraphim, Plug and Play, Impact First, and Climate Capital. The funding aims to accelerate the deployment of the company’s Genesis technology, which converts industrial CO2 waste streams into fossil-free natural gas.
The Genesis system, a scalable solution for producing clean, high-density fuel, offers compatibility with existing energy infrastructure. General Galactic targets sectors like maritime shipping, agriculture, and heavy industry, where the demand for low-emission fuels is growing. The company’s pilot system currently produces 2,000 liters of methane daily, demonstrating the potential for broader application.
“Our technology enables a green transition without dismantling existing infrastructure,” said Neise, General Galactic’s CTO and co-founder. “This is decarbonization without destruction, making sustainable fuels more accessible and cost-effective for critical industries.”

With the new funding, General Galactic plans to expand its engineering team and work toward mass commercialization. CEO and co-founder Halen Mattison highlighted the company’s long-term vision, which includes “building a gas station on Mars” while delivering fossil-free energy solutions on Earth. The Genesis modules are expected to be deployable by 2025, with fuel offtake reservations available now.
Refactor Capital’s founder, Zal Bilimoria, expressed confidence in the company’s approach. “Halen and Luke’s pragmatic solutions address the energy needs of deeply entrenched industries while steering the world toward renewable energy sources,” Bilimoria said.
