Space Forge announced it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Voyager Space to explore new avenues in space-based research and manufacturing. This partnership centers on Space Forge’s ForgeStar® series platform, a flexible in-space manufacturing and research system designed for advanced materials and biomedical applications. By combining ForgeStar® technology with Voyager’s established commercial space station infrastructure, the companies aim to support industries in producing materials uniquely enhanced by the space environment.
Both companies see opportunities in leveraging the microgravity, vacuum, and temperature extremes of space to improve material production standards while addressing sustainability. This approach, they believe, will lower carbon emissions, reduce energy consumption, and lead to more efficient, higher-quality materials. Space Forge, already recognized for its innovation in space-manufactured materials, sees this collaboration with Voyager as a pathway to broaden the scope and scale of in-space manufacturing.
“Our collaboration with Voyager will help set new standards in space-driven manufacturing, enabling us to create more sustainable and effective solutions,” said Michelle Flemming, President of Space Forge Inc.
This partnership also reflects a broader goal shared by both companies: to enhance commercial space exploration capabilities. Frank Morgan, Voyager’s Chief Operating Officer, sees this initiative as pivotal. “Through our combined efforts, we’re not only advancing material science and biomedicine but also paving the way for future space-made solutions to reach industries on Earth,” he said.
Looking ahead, the partnership will explore integrating ForgeStar’s returnable spacecraft with Voyager’s orbital infrastructure. Their collaboration includes plans for developing return interfaces and working together on funding opportunities tailored to commercial customers. This venture aims to broaden the market for space-made materials, projected to grow rapidly in the coming decade.
