Umbra, a space technology company known for its high-resolution Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellites, has reportedly been awarded a multi-million dollar contract by the Space Development Agency (SDA). The contract focuses on demonstrating the integration of Umbra’s commercial remote sensing capabilities into SDA’s Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture (PWSA).
This contract is an important step in supporting SDA’s mission to provide space-based capabilities to enhance terrestrial operations. Umbra’s technology will allow for data from areas of interest to be downlinked directly to tactical nodes, bypassing the need for a traditional ground terminal in the field. This streamlines access to critical data for a broader range of users and simplifies how space-based systems connect with ground networks.
Umbra’s Director of Mission Solutions, Bonnie Kean, stated that the company is fully aligned with SDA’s mission and is eager to contribute to the development of future space architectures. Both Umbra and SDA share a common goal of delivering innovative and cost-effective solutions.
