Arkadia Space, a Castellón-based company specializing in green propulsion systems, has announced a significant collaboration with D-Orbit for the validation of its first in-orbit propulsion module. This mission marks a historic milestone as Arkadia becomes the first Spanish company to launch a chemical propulsion system into space. The scheduled launch is set for no earlier than March 2025 aboard SpaceX’s Transporter 13 mission from Vandenberg Space Force Base, California.
The propulsion module, entirely developed by Arkadia’s team, features a hydrogen peroxide fuel tank, electronic systems, and two 5N monopropellant thrusters. This mission aims to demonstrate the performance of the 5N thrusters in space and validate the long-term storage of hydrogen peroxide—a safer, more environmentally friendly alternative to traditional fuels like hydrazine. Arkadia’s goal is to offer a sustainable solution to propulsion needs within the space sector.
Francho García, CEO of Arkadia Space, emphasized the importance of this milestone: “We are on the brink of proving the capabilities of our technology in orbit, showcasing the expertise of our team. This mission will play a crucial role in building trust with potential customers.”
D-Orbit, a leader in space logistics, will provide transport for Arkadia’s propulsion module aboard its ION Satellite Carrier. This collaboration offers Arkadia the reliability and expertise needed for a successful demonstration. The partnership is also set to open opportunities for future missions, positioning Arkadia as a provider of advanced propulsion solutions.
Arkadia Space is already in talks with prospective clients, aiming to secure contracts based on the success of this initial mission. Additionally, the company is working on projects with the European Space Agency (ESA), which will be announced in the near future.
