Skyloom Global Corp., an American leader in space-based data transport services, and Officina Stellare, an Italian company specializing in optomechanical systems, have announced plans to create a joint venture called Skyloom Europe. This collaboration aims to enhance global telecommunication networks with a focus on space and airborne optical communications.

Skyloom Europe will set up a high-throughput production facility in Italy to manufacture optical communication terminals. These terminals, designed for both space and airborne applications, will incorporate advanced encryption techniques like quantum key distribution (QKD), enhancing secure data transmissions. The facility will build on the business model that Skyloom already operates in the United States, where they serve both commercial clients and government agencies, such as the U.S. Space Development Agency.

The joint venture is strategically located in the Veneto region near Officina Stellare’s headquarters. By combining the strengths of both companies, Skyloom Europe will not only produce existing technologies but also drive new research and development in secure communications. The aim is to meet the growing global demand for optical communication systems, which Euroconsult estimates will reach a market value of nearly €12 billion by 2031.

Skyloom Europe will focus on serving European markets, positioning itself as a key supplier of optical communication solutions. Its advanced technology is expected to benefit a range of sectors, including defense and satellite communications, providing secure, fast, and reliable connectivity.

Both companies view the joint venture as a critical step in strengthening Europe’s position in the global space economy. With a growing demand for secure communications driven by geopolitical factors, Skyloom Europe is poised to make a significant impact on the industry, particularly in the defense and telecommunications sectors.

Skyloom and Officina Stellare plan to keep the market informed as the joint venture progresses, with a formal agreement expected soon.
