Orbitworks, a joint venture between Abu Dhabi-based Marlan Space and Loft Orbital, is emerging as the Middle East’s first private space infrastructure company. The recently announced partnership marks a significant development in the UAE’s expanding space sector. With an initial investment exceeding $100 million, Orbitworks plans to produce up to fifty 500 kg satellites annually, focusing on low-earth orbit (LEO) constellations.

Loft Orbital, established in 2017, brings its technical expertise and strong industry reputation to the venture. The company supports diverse missions, including telecommunications, earth observation, and scientific research. The first satellite platform, expected to be completed by early 2025, will be assembled, integrated, and tested in a state-of-the-art facility designed for advanced satellite production.

The joint venture has already secured components for its first ten satellites, with the initial launch projected for early 2026 and aims to accelerate Loft Orbital’s goal of offering quick and efficient satellite deployment for various customers. It also plans to collaborate with regional component manufacturers and technology providers to strengthen the UAE’s local space ecosystem. This strategy aligns with Loft Orbital’s solutions, ensuring smooth integration of cutting-edge technology.

Recruitment efforts are underway to attract talent in hardware, software, test engineering, and other aerospace disciplines from both local and international markets.

Orbitworks will also engage with the UAE’s advanced AI ecosystem by offering AI companies and research organizations a straightforward path to deploy their applications in space. This collaboration positions Orbitworks as a crucial player in the UAE’s ambition to become a leader in the global space industry.
