Space Intelligence, a leader in high-accuracy nature mapping data, announced its successful Series A funding round. AzurX Space Ventures (ASV) led the round, with participation from Intercontinental Exchange, Inc. This funding will enhance the company’s library of global forest mapping data, fuel efforts to expand its global forest cover mapping, and support forest carbon projects and nature impact monitoring.
This expansion will focus on developing and financing forest carbon initiatives and improving nature impact monitoring across corporate supply chains. Accurate, independent data on land and forest cover is crucial for stakeholders involved in forest conservation, restoration, and compliance with regulations like the EU Deforestation Regulation.
Dr. Murray Collins, co-founder and CEO of Space Intelligence, emphasized the need for reliable data in addressing climate and biodiversity crises. While satellite data is abundant, the lack of consistent and accurate insights hinders decision-making and reporting. Space Intelligence aims to solve this with its science-driven approach to creating audit-grade datasets. This funding will enable the company to accelerate the production of these datasets across more regions and time periods.
Founded by Dr. Collins and Professor Ed Mitchard, Space Intelligence draws on nearly 40 years of combined expertise in remote sensing using satellite data. The company has grown to over 50 staff members, including 20 mapping scientists and ecologists. Trusted by major developers and investors in forest carbon projects, Space Intelligence’s data catalog spans 640 million hectares across seven countries. By Q2 2025, they aim to expand coverage to over 35 additional countries, making it the largest audit-grade nature mapping dataset available.
The company will also introduce new data products in Q4 to enhance near real-time monitoring of deforestation and degradation. These products will support improved risk management and monitoring.
Anna Hazlett, co-founder and CEO of ASV, highlighted the importance of investing in space-based technologies. She noted that Space Intelligence’s work is vital for leveraging satellite data to address global environmental challenges, driving sustainable development, and providing high-accuracy insights for resource management and climate change mitigation.
