At Eurosatory 2024, Rajeev Gadre, Senior Sales Director for Satellite Services and Global Government at Intelsat, discussed the transformative trends in the space operations industry.
Gadre went into the evolving landscape of sovereign space infrastructure and the crucial role Intelsat plays in supporting this global shift.
Gadre identified two primary trends in the industry: “The growth in the new space economy driven by the commercial private sector and the rising demand from nations wanting to establish their own sovereign space infrastructure.” He explained that for decades, access to space has been dominated by a few countries, but now, nations worldwide are seeking their own capabilities. “The rest of the world is saying, ‘Why not us?’ They want their own sovereign space infrastructure as well, and that to me is very exciting,” he added.
Partnering with Intelsat offers significant advantages for these aspiring space-faring nations.
“Sovereign space infrastructure doesn’t and shouldn’t mean doing it alone,” said Gadre, noting that Intelsat’s extensive experience, having launched hundreds of satellites over 60 years, allows nations to “accelerate their learning curve” and reduce risks and costs. This partnership provides access to a comprehensive ecosystem, enhancing the chances of successful space missions.
Intelsat’s offerings extend beyond just satellite launches. Gadre elaborated on this: “We have a full suite of end-to-end professional satellite services, starting with consulting and training.”
Intelsat works closely with government agencies to tailor solutions, whether it’s a hosted payload or an independent satellite. Their support continues through the satellite’s lifecycle, from manufacturing oversight to launch support and post-launch operations.
“Once your asset is in space, we ensure safe, secure and reliable operations,” Gadre assured.
Intelsat also addressed the critical need for ground infrastructure. Gadre stated that Intelsat provides complimentary ground infrastructure for space assets, ensuring the best value for nations. He noted that this holistic approach underscores Intelsat’s commitment to offering not just solutions but comprehensive support and training.
Intelsat’s role in empowering nations to develop their own space infrastructure marks a significant step forward in global space operations. With a full suite of services and decades of expertise, Intelsat is poised to support and drive the next era of space exploration and sovereignty.
