At Eurosatory 2024, Rajeev Gadre, Senior Sales Director for Satellite Services and Global Government at Intelsat, shared his thoughts on the evolving trends in the space operations industry and the growing demand for sovereign space infrastructure.
Gadre noted two key trends: the rise of the new space economy driven by the commercial private sector and the increasing desire of nations to establish their own sovereign space infrastructure.
“For the last several decades, a few countries have dominated access to space but now, nations around the world are saying, ‘Why not us?’” he remarked.
Partnering with Intelsat offers numerous advantages for nations developing their space capabilities. Gadre explained: “Sovereign space infrastructure doesn’t and shouldn’t mean doing it alone. By working with a partner like Intelsat, who’s been around for the last 60 years and launched hundreds of satellites, you can accelerate that learning curve.”
Intelsat provides a comprehensive suite of satellite solutions, including consulting, training, launch support, and lifecycle management.
“Intelsat has a full suite of end-to-end professional satellite services,” said Gadre. This includes initial consulting to determine the best solutions, extensive training programs, and support throughout the satellite’s manufacturing and launch processes.
Once a satellite is operational, Intelsat offers full lifecycle support to ensure safe, secure, and reliable operations. Gadre detailed: “We can help the client establish their in-country operations center for their satellite, and we also have the option of a hot backup with Intelsat’s own satellite operation centers.”
Ground infrastructure is also a critical component of satellite operations.
“We have a suite of suppliers and providers that we can work with to provide the ground infrastructure for your space asset at the best value for your nation,” stressed Gadre.
Reflecting on the event, Gadre expressed enthusiasm about the numerous government delegations present at Eurosatory.
“We’re looking forward to having those conversations about what exactly we can do to complement their sovereign space infrastructure needs,” he said. Whether it involves hosted payloads or sovereign satellites, Intelsat is ready to engage with nations to meet their specific requirements.
