The space industry in Yorkshire is beginning to boom, and companies like Slipstream Engineering Design are at the front of that exciting development. In a recent interview, Sarah Gregory, commercial director at Slipstream, shared what work the company and space sector in this region are currently going through.
Slipstream Engineering Design, based in Shipley, West Yorkshire, specializes in cutting-edge satellite communications and radar technology for the space sector.
“Here at Slipstream we’re really involved in cutting edge in terms of satellite Communications and radar for the space sector,” Gregory explained.
The company boasts a diverse team of about 21 professionals, primarily engineers with expertise in various fields.
“We have a multi-functional team who deal with radio frequency digital and firmware and software development as well as mechanical engineering,” Gregory noted. This multidisciplinary approach allows Slipstream to tackle complex challenges in the space industry.
Gregory underscored the collaborative nature of Yorkshire’s space sector, particularly in radio frequency technology: “The radio frequency cluster in particular is really working together in order to uh capitalize on those opportunities.” This cooperation is driving innovation and growth in the region’s space industry.
For those considering a career in the space sector, Gregory offered valuable advice.
“My number one piece of advice for anybody who’s starting out in the space sector is really to have the right mindset and to be super curious and really to be open to failure and to be super resilient,” she said.

As Gregory put it: “I think the space sector is like the perfect sector to really geek out as a scientist and an engineer.” With companies like Slipstream leading the way, Yorkshire’s space sector is poised for continued growth and innovation.
