BlackSky Technology Inc., a leading provider of real-time geospatial intelligence, has secured a $24 million contract from the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). The contract is geared towards the development and demonstration of moving target engagement services.
Brian E. O’Toole, CEO of BlackSky, discussed the company’s software-first, AI-driven approach, highlighting its potential to enhance commercial space-based moving target detection, tracking, and identification capabilities at machine speed.
The project will leverage BlackSky’s proprietary Spectra® tasking and analytics platform, utilizing both internal and third-party data. Through various AI and machine learning techniques, the aim is to optimize tasking, multi-INT collection, automatic tipping-and-cueing, direct downlink, and moving target engagement processing timelines within a simulated exercise environment.

O’Toole emphasized the adaptability of BlackSky Spectra in resource-limited settings, showcasing its ability to fuse information from multiple government ISR and commercial data sources seamlessly.
