PRESS RELEASE — Houston, Texas / October 19, 2023 — Cognitive Space, the market leader in intelligent space automation, proudly announces the receipt of two Small Business Innovation Research Program (SBIR) Phase II awards from the Space Development Agency (SDA). The awards, totaling $3.22 million, underscore Cognitive Space’s dedication to addressing the pressing needs of the defense and intelligence communities.

The awarded contracts are as follows:

  1. $1.25 million Direct-to-Phase-II (D2P2) award for a program titled “CNTIENT for Topology and Link Management of a Dynamic Satellite Network.”
  2. $1.97 million Phase II award, following the successful Phase I program, titled “Intelligent Space Mesh Network Routing for Communication Resiliency.”

Securing not only one, but two Phase II awards from the Space Development Agency within a matter of weeks emphasizes the value CNTIENT brings for topology management, link management, and edge-based mesh networking. This achievement showcases the trust and confidence from Cognitive Space’s valued customer, Space Development Agency, and highlights the critical role that CNTIENT products play in supporting the needs of the warfighter and the broader satellite communication architecture.

Frank Turner, Chief Architect of the Space Development Agency, emphasized the importance of these awards, stating:

“The mission of ensuring communication resiliency and the dynamic management of satellite networks is crucial for the warfighter’s success. Cognitive Space’s work is meeting this need today and plays a pivotal role in enhancing our nation’s defense capabilities.”

Cognitive Space’s CNTIENT products are addressing the critical needs of the warfighter and dedicated military personnel using the technology on the front lines. The warfighter relies on low-latency, and resilient communication links to access essential data in the most challenging and contested regions across the globe.

Under these contracts, Cognitive Space is developing and productizing key CNTIENT features such as topology management, link management, and edge-based mesh networking. These features play a pivotal role in building a space-based communication network that supports the warfighter’s need for secure and rapid data transmission.

Cognitive Space’s valued customer, SDA, is responsible for constructing the ‘Transport Layer,’ encompassing the physical infrastructure of the space-based communication network. The features within CNTIENT serve as the software backbone that complements and enhances this network, ensuring seamless and reliable communication capabilities for those who serve on the front lines.

Guy de Carufel, Founder and CEO of Cognitive Space, commented:

“Our collaboration with the Space Development Agency is a testament to the technical excellence we bring to the table. CNTIENT isn’t just a technically capable product suite; it plays a pivotal role in enhancing our nation’s defense capabilities. We are proud to be at the forefront of innovation in satellite automation and communication.”
